Violin Duo and String Orchestra, 9’00” total duration

Mikrokosmos serves as a comprehensive pedagogical tool for young pianists, as well as a showcase for Bartók’s musical innovations. The collection consists of six volumes and is structured in a progressive manner, beginning with simple pieces and gradually increasing in difficulty. Each volume explores different technical and musical aspects, such as scales, chords, rhythm, and form.

This work is an adaptation of 7 movements in Mikrokosmos for violin duo and string orchestra, and is taken from the following:

124: Staccato (orchestra)
120: Fifth Chords (duo and orchestra)
103: Major and Minor (duo)
110: Clashing Sounds (duo and orchestra)
123: Staccato and Legato (duo)
102: Harmonics (duo and orchestra)
126: Change of Time (duo and orchestra)

I extend my gratitude to the team at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Asian Association, and the staff, students and alumni giving this work its performance; Huixin Hu and Paul Docherty for this collaboration, and Hiew Tzejia for bringing me on board this exciting project.
