SATB divisi, 5’00”

The text by Toh Hong Jin is written in jueju (绝句), a Classical Chinese poetry form that grew in popularity during the Tang Dynasty. The pentatonic melody is first sung by a solo soprano, after which it is treated canonically, and accompanied by the men’s voices. The added text is taken from a fragment of the Psalms, which share themes of respite after a prolonged period without rain.

World premiere by Victoria Chorale, conducted by Nelson Kwei, 26 March 2022.
